Who am I? A seeming simple question, and yet, as I sit here staring at my computer screen I can not seem to find the answer.
I suppose from a surface level, I would be described as a traveler, a teacher, a student, an American, and a writer. Perhaps a superficial scratch at the skin and you may find a bit of a rebellious loner with introverted tendencies and an innate sense to explore.
My name is Sam and I was born and raised in St. Louis, USA. And that is where I remained until I was 19 years old when I shocked just about everyone I knew by announcing I would be taking a semester to study in Beijing, China – a drastic turn for a shy and depressed university student who had never left home. Needless to say, that semester abroad in 2011 was an enlightening experience. It changed the way I viewed the world and myself within it.
Since then, I completed college and went on to being a teacher for three years while seizing every opportunity to travel. I have since found myself returning to China, and also exploring Panama, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom. Presently, I am in Scotland continuing my education in Aberdeen while, of course, planning more adventures…
about my blog
Writing is a passion of mine. For as long as I can remember I have been writing, whether it be stories, poems, songs, or most recently a wayward blog. Also as long as I can remember I have never before shared any of my writing with another soul. So here on this page I will share my ‘strange literature‘ to any who may dare to take a peek.
Additionally, there will be a travel section in my blog. Before visiting a new locale I have made a habit of carrying out (what I call) ‘virtual exploring’, that is, I research my next destination via the open web. I may look up information on a local tourist site or the ever so popular TripAdvisor; however, my preferred method is referring to blogs. I find it eminently interesting to read about others’ first hand experiences be it be their favorite hostel, their must do list, or their story of a wild night on the town. In a sense, this ‘everything travel‘ blog is an effort to pay-it-foward by sharing some of my own travel experiences in hopes that others may be able to use it to help create their own.
While the majority of my entries will be focused on travel and literature, there will be the occasional ‘random babblings‘ where I may talk about school, work, opinions, or any one of an infinite range of topics.
Also, please note that all photos on this blog were taken by me unless specifically noted at the bottom on the post (i.e., ’10 Unique Ways to Commemorate Your Travels’).
